Commonwealth Games England (CGE) have today confirmed that English Institute of Sport (EIS) National Director Nigel Walker has been appointed to the CGE Board with immediate effect.
Walker, a former international athlete and rugby player, oversees the sports science and medical services to Team England athletes as part of his role at the EIS and will advise the board on all performance issues.
New CGE chairman Ian Metcalfe, who formally takes up his post on 5 December, said: "I am delighted that someone of Nigel's calibre has joined our board. We had our best ever Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, topping the medal table, and insight from experts like Nigel will help shape our journey towards Gold Coast in 2018.
Outgoing CGE Chair Sir Andrew Foster said: "Nigel's appointment adds depth to an already very strong board giving Team England the very best chance of success going forward.To be leaving Team England in such capable hands is very satisfying."
Walker added: "The entire England team performed with distinction in Glasgow in a truly memorable Commonwealth Games and I am delighted to be given the opportunity to use my experience to help the Commonwealth Games England board build and implement plans which will support England's athletes as they aim for the Gold Coast in 2018."
