The Board of Commonwealth Games England has appointed Chris Simpson as a Non-executive Director.
Team England are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Simpson as a Non-Executive Director of Commonwealth Games England. Chris, a Chartered Accountant, started his career with Price Waterhouse in both the UK and USA before moving into general management. For 30 years he held Chief Executive roles in several well-respected large international manufacturing businesses. Recently, he has been a senior advisor in the public sector and currently holds non-executive roles with several high-growth companies in the renewable energy and leisure sectors.
Chris will replace Joe Ryan as the Chair of Commonwealth Games England’s audit and finance committee when Joe retires at the Annual General meeting in October this year.
Chris brings a wealth of expertise in general and financial management across a wide range of market sectors and a strong understanding of cash management and good governance.
Speaking after his appointment, Chris said: “I am honoured to join Commonwealth Games England and to have the chance to contribute in some small way to the Commonwealth Games movement.
“I am a self-confessed sport fanatic and having travelled extensively, including to several Commonwealth countries, I am absolutely convinced of the power of sport in shaping international relations. I visited Glasgow as part of Team England and until then had not appreciated just how strong the Commonwealth movement is. Glasgow was a massive success, not just for Team England, and I am looking forward to helping us repeat that success in Gold Coast in 2018”
