Chris Adcock and Andrew Ellis claimed a big Super Series scalp on day one of the French Open in Paris today when they knocked out third seeds Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Adripa Gunawan 27-25 21-19 in the men’s doubles first round..

The England pair led 16-11 in the opening game at the Coubertin Stadium but let the Indonesians draw level with five points in a row before the lead chopped and changed with Adcock and Ellis saving two game points before winning the opener on their fifth game point.

The second game was just as close with the scores again level at 16-16 before Adcock (Notts) and Ellis (Yorks) edged into an 20-17 lead and took the contest on their third match point after 43 minutes.

England No. 1 Rajiv Ouseph got his singles campaign off to a solid start with a 21-14 21-10 win over Kasper Ipsen of Denmark. Ouseph, the world No 16, will face France’s Brice Leverdez or Ireland’s Scott Evans in the second round tomorrow.
